Impact Evangelism

Impact Evangelism camps are a great way to get involved in reaching out to people with the gospel. These outreaches are a fun way to learn to relate with others, share the gospel with them and experience a new faith. Activities include: lectures and worship, sport on the beach, Chai Tent Ministry and friendship evangelism, We run 3 Impact Evangelism camps throughout the year, in Airlie Beach. Airlie Beach, gateway to the Whitsundars, is a backpacker town, full of travellers are who are open and hungry for something meaningful! YWAM Gold Coast [link to YWAMGC] and YWAM Byron Bay [link to YWAMBB] also run similar outreaches as well.

  • Impact Summer happens over the New Year holiday.
  • Impact Winter takes place in June.
  • Impact Schoolies is during the Schoolies week at the end of November.

Here's a testimony from Pia (Germany) from Impact Summer 2007:

On the first evening we had a lot of people visiting the tent including a German and a Dutch guy, both Backpackers, travelling together. Because I am German myself, I could easily connect with these guys.

Throughout the whole evening we had great conversations about what we are doing and why we are doing it, but also about where they come from and what they believe. They were very interested in our [Discipleship Training School] and thought that it is so cool, that we can connect our faith with our passions [for the arts] and also travel around Australia. They themselves were sometimes really bored by travelling without any aim.

The amazing thing was, that the whole time that evening they kept on saying: "Wow, the atmosphere in this tent is just incredible! It's so different from all the pubs and somehow you just want to stay here!!"

These guys came back to the Chai Tent every single evening and even hung out with some of us in the afternoons - until they had to leave Airlie Beach. I really believe God used us to plant great seeds in their lives. The fruit is going to come - sooner or later!

Another man who I will never forget is called Peter. I met him on a bench outside the tent, while I was talking to God. When he came to sit down beside me on the bench, God told me that he is the one He wanted me to speak with. The evening I met him, we talked for almost two hours and God was just there with His presence, guiding me with His Holy Spirit. When the Holy Spirit revealed to me, that Peter was an alcoholic, who was often let down by people and especially by his father, I just spoke it out loud.

Peter just looked at me very surprised and asked, 'How do YOU know??' I replied: 'Well, actually, God just told me so!'

He admitted that these things were right and we were able to talk about his deepest wounds.

In the end I encouraged him that he can invite Jesus into his life any time, for Jesus came to heal the broken hearted. He told me how much my words made him think and that he will never forget the things I said to him.
